MPI relies on its volunteers to assist with creating programs that members need. Numerous opportunities are available at the chapter and international levels. Not only will you build your career and increase your industry knowledge, but your time and expertise will help the meetings and events industry improve and grow as well.

Below you will find a variety of roles, time commitments and interests allowing you to be involved and contribute to the success of MPI. Before volunteering it is important to consider the time and travel required for each position. To help you decide which opportunities align with the demands of your personal and professional life, please consider the color codes.
- These roles require minimal travel and fewer meetings. Most meetings occur online, phone conference or in your region. In some cases the responsibilities may require a few hours of your time.
- These roles require a little more of your time and possibly some travel.
- These roles require more time at face-to-face meetings, conference calls and assignments.

| Chapter-Committee | Chapters rely on members to be involved and help with education programs, obtaining sponsorships, planning special events and many other responsibilities. Your contribution at this level allows you to work closely with peers in your region and gain insight on the inner workings of your chapter. |
| Chapter-Board of Directors | Requiring more time, volunteering to serve on a chapter’s Board of Directors can be a rewarding experience. Board members meet frequently by conference calls and face-to-face including possible travel to leadership training and events. Various roles on the Board include Finance, Membership, Communications, Education and many others. |
| International-Committees and Task Forces | Committee members perform fundamental governance functions for MPI. Task force members are part of a team setup for a defined and time limited purpose. | International-Advisory Councils | Members serving in this role provide management with much needed industry perspective. | International-MPI Board of Directors | Serving on MPI's chief governing body requires a greater time commitment for meetings and terms can last from one to three years. | International-MPI Foundation Global Board of Trustees | This group of individuals raises funds for the Foundation. | Speaker and Presenter | MPI has several conferences throughout the year and speakers and presenters are needed. These events take place around the globe and each conference has a specific objective. Visit the webpage to learn more or email mpispeakers@mpiweb.org. |
| Abstract Peer Review | Prior year conference attendees are invited via email to review speaker proposals for next year conferences. Review roughly 10 proposals and provide your feedback. | Groups | Join and participate on a MPI Groups community. There are several communities already established, but if one doesn’t pique your interest, you can start your own. This is an opportunity to network virtually with peers that share your same interests. Some groups arrange informal gatherings at conferences. |
