Member Care Statements on Important Issues
Message from 2005-2006 Chairwoman of the Board Christine Duffy
Dear fellow MPI members:
Imagine a day when the head of your organization congratulates you for the role that you - and the meeting you orchestrated - played in the successful launch of a new product. Imagine a day when every industry supplier is considered a strategic partner that plays a key role in the planning and measurement of a meeting's success.
Thanks to Meeting Professionals International, that day may not be very far away. We are leading the charge to transform our profession and educate executives that meetings mean business. This can be summed up in one word ... influence.
Influence is the power that shapes our views and drives us forward as individuals, as a culture, and as a profession.
Think about how personnel became known as human resources. Or purchasing’s evolution to procurement. These were not simply cosmetic name changes. These professions have embraced change, used the power of influence and affected a transformation.
That’s what MPI is doing for the management of meetings. We are transforming meeting professionals from being known as pure logistics managers or corporate party throwers into strategic contributors to an organization’s bottom-line success. Of course, logistics will always be important, but now we must work at a higher level. In order to transform, we must influence senior executives’ view of our role in the business planning process.
Influence is the power that we each have, regardless of our backgrounds, gender, positions or skill level, to be more cognizant of the broader business issues that affect our organizations and our industry, and to the role that meetings play within the context of driving the business forward.
With MPI Member Solutions launching in January, we will revolutionize the way we and others such as CEOs, HR professionals, governments, faculty and students think about our profession. It will provide personalized career paths for you and a body of knowledge that will help us define and create our profession.
MPI also will launch a research agenda to understand executive thinking regarding the impact of meetings, and then identify specific ways to influence their perceptions about meetings overall. This is in addition to world class education and networking at both the international and chapter levels.
Thanks for your commitment to MPI. I am extremely honored to serve as your International Chairwoman and collaborate with you to build a profession and influence executives about the strategic value of meetings in business. Cordially,

Here’s what some of our members had to say about MPI:
"If I had not joined MPI 10 years ago, I might be where I am today, but certainly not with the same knowledge of the industry acquired through MPI education programs and best practice exchanges with my MPI colleagues. Education opportunities provided by MPI are, without a doubt, the best value for your money out of all other industry educational programs."
Antonio Ducceschi, CMM
Director of Sales and Marketing
Le Meridien Beach Plaza
Monte-Carlo, Monaco
"The most important aspect about MPI to me is the support from other members. I operate a small business and don’t have much of a built-in support group. But when I run into a problem or situation and need someone to go to, I don’t hesitate to call or email one of my fellow MPI members. And it’s not just on the local level – members throughout the world have been invaluable to me in conducting my day-to-day business. I find most MPI members to be very dependable and professional, something I couldn’t do without."
O.D. O’Donnell
Owner
Nightlife Talent/Panache+

"Being appointed and serving on the International Membership Committee in 2002 was an honor just to be in the company of so many professionals who really love MPI and want nothing but the very best for each and every member. Our members are the brain, heart and soul of MPI, and the bottom line of any good organization is to LISTEN to the members and HEAR what they really have to say – It’s that simple."
Shannon Simpson
Senior National Sales Manager
Villas of Grand Cypress
Orlando, Florida, United States
"Membership in MPI has been a huge part of my professional and personal industry growth for many years. MPI provides a professional home that allows me to stay in touch with the industry on a worldwide basis, and the friends and colleagues I have around the globe to draw upon for advice and assistance at any time is tremendous!"
Fiona Marshall White
President
Logotex Manufacturing Inc.
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
"The most valuable aspect of my MPI membership is what I’ve learned by observing other members. I have found MPI members willing to help, mentor and share ideas, without giving it a second thought. They are dedicated to the professionalism of the industry and have a willingness to give back to the association through their contributions to local and international committees. That is the reward and value of MPI membership to me."
