Our Bookstore Collection:

Our books will be reviewed and recommended by trusted "readers" in the network as well as the WLI staff. We want it easy on you to shop – so the books are placed in "categories" according to what they offer and we introduce two here: My Own Business (for developing your own business) and Climbing the Ladder. There will be more categories and other reading resources as time goes on – including books on helping men and women understand and communicate better. Each review includes something about the author – which is usually very important to women. We want to know "what makes her/him an authority?" (Right?)

Monday Morning Leadership for Women
Valerie Sokolosky

Review by Kristine Entwistle, CMP
Member, International Women’s Leadership Committee
WLI Chapter Liaison, MPI San Diego Chapter

About the Book:

Written in story format, this book easily tells of a mentoring relationship between two women (who meet at Starbucks!) -- and teaches the reader key leadership tactics while the “mentee” learns the same. The book is written in a casual conversation style. It reads easy and is perfect for a plane ride! You’ll enjoy the way each leadership lesson is learned through a real life business challenge, analysis and resolution. This book raises the leadership principles and qualities that can make us all more effective. It is also an excellent reminder of the value of mentors, many of whom may come to us in non-conventional ways and spend a limited amount of time - yet help us reach new levels of personal success. (Also -- fits into your purse!)

Gail Evans
Review by MJ Calnan, Managing Director, WLI

About the book:

A perfectly frank, easy, read-on-a-flight book about dealing with the male-dominated leadership reality – and getting beyond it! Don’t let the title stop you – this is a woman-to-woman conversation about getting where you want to be without compromising who you are as a woman – but knowing who the "players" are as men. This is a book you will want to share with your friends, daughters – and even the men with whom you work and live. It calls it like it is…and teaches you how to make it – by knowing the rules!

About the author:

This being her first book after a long climb up the corporate ladder, Gail had the joy of it being on the best-sellers list soon after it was written!
