My Action Plans
On average, a healthy working adult may spend at least 40 years working. Often we learn through trial and error what we like and don’t like, where our strengths are, and what we value and need from work. At any point or at many points in our career life, we may find that we’ve outgrown our job or just want to try something else.
Regardless of where you are in your career path, now can be the time to reflect on your career progress and aspirations to determine if changes are needed.
Very few people accidentally fall into careers and professions in which they excel and find enjoyable and fulfilling. Whether you are just starting a career, want to grow horizontally or vertically or want to change career fields, having a plan will help you get where you want to go!
There are numerous theories and methods for planning your career. In lieu of giving you only one template, MPI is pleased to provide you with several different types of action plans to architect your career development.
Make a commitment to turn your dreams into specific goals by using the SMART Model. Studies have shown that goals which are vague and unspecific rarely get accomplished.
Think about the often repeated and long-standing goal “to lose weight.” Stated in this way, this goal is not Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and within a specific Timeframe. Therefore, it is very difficult to achieve success. This same goal restated using the SMART model would be, “to lose ten pounds in 60 days.” Try it, it works.
MPI wishes you much success in strategically planning your career growth and development.
