Nomination and Application

 
1.  Can I nominate myself for any of the awards? 

All nominations with the exception of the Organizational Achievement award must be submitted by peers. Self nominations will not be accepted.

2.  Do I have to be a member of MPI to submit a nomination?

No. Nominations may be submitted by both members and non-members.

3.  Do I have to be a member of MPI to be nominated?

Specific awards have eligibility requirements. Nominees for the Member of the Year award must be MPI members. The Community awards require that the group be an official MPI chapter or community. Organizations that are nominated do not have to be members of MPI nor have a MPI member on staff.

4.  What is the deadline for the nominations?

Nominations for the Individual, Community and Organizational Achievement awards are due December 16, 2011.  No late entries will be accepted.

5.  What happens after I nominate an individual, community or organization?

In January, MPI will contact the nominee to complete an online application, provide documentation supporting the nomination, and submit two letters of recommendation.  All of the materials must be received by the application deadline.

6.  What has to be received by the nomination and application deadlines?

The following documentation must be received by MPI for the submission to be valid. 
--Online peer nomination form with explanation how nominee meets the criteria for the award.

The following documentation must be received by MPI for the application to be valid.  The online application will be sent to each nominee in January.
--Completed online application including nominee's contact information and release statement.
--Documentation explaining how the nominee meets the criteria.
--Two letters of recommendation (cannot be from MPI staff)

7. I was nominated for an award, where do I send my application materials?

In January, MPI will send you an email with access code and web address for your online application.  All materials for the application are to be sent electronically. No hard copies will be accepted. As part of the online application, nominees upload the supporting documentation and two letters of recommendation (cannot be from MPI staff). Once all documents are complete, the nominee electronically submits the materials.

The materials must be submitted by the deadline outlined in the email.  No late entries will be accepted. 

8.  Can an individual that won an award in the past be eligible for a RISE nomination?

Yes. The previous award programs recognized individuals, chapters and organizations for achievements different from the RISE awards criteria.

9.  Would I be notified if I have been nominated for an award?

Yes. At the beginning of January, MPI will contact the nominee requesting an application be completed and submitted with supporting documentation and two letters of recommendation.  The nominee must submit all of the materials by the deadline.

10.  I want to nominate someone for the Member of the Year award, but I don’t know if they are a member of MPI.

--Contact Janice Parker at jparker@mpiweb.org or 972-702-3048 to confirm an individual’s membership status,

or

--Go ahead and submit your nomination for the individual and when received at MPI the individuals membership status will be verified. If the nominee is not a member of MPI you will be contacted that the nomination will not be forwarded to the nominee.

11.  How do I nominate an event? I don’t see an award that allows me to nominate a particular event for an award.

The RISE awards program does not offer an award for a specific meeting or event. The RISE Award for Organizational Achievement focuses instead on how organizations effectively use meetings and events to drive business results.

12.  Is my chapter considered a MPI Community?

Yes. Your chapter is considered a Community of Geography. Chapters are eligible for the Community Achievement awards.

13.  What qualifies as “professional experience” for the Young Professional Achievement award?

The term “professional experience” refers to full-time employment in any given industry. Time spent working as an intern or part-time is not included in the less than 5 year requirement.

Public Announcement and Recognition Event

14.  Will MPI announce the recipients of the awards before WEC?

Yes. Recipients for the awards will be announced in April/May 2012. Recipients should plan to attend the presentation of the awards which will take place at 2012 WEC in St. Louis, Missouri.
