The President of Intercontinental  Hotels Group (IHG) has put out the following message to all employees and owners: "While IHG does not have any hotels or employees in the area, I know that many of you want to do whatever you can to help... As is often the case in situations like this, monetary donations to humanitarian organizations that have the ability to mobilize quickly and get supplies to those in need is the best way we can offer our support right now. We are proud to partner with CARE in support of their earthquake relief efforts. IHG has a strong and longstanding relationship with this great organization, and we share the common bond of being global organizations with headquarters based in Atlanta. CARE has set up an IHG-specific online landing page for those employees, Owners and hotels who wish to give. Donations can be made at http://www.care.org/ihgforhaiti.

Additionally (and for all Priority Club Rewards members within MPI), Priority Club Rewards (PCR) members can donate their unused points to The American Red Cross, in support of relief efforts, through the PCR website as part of PCR’s charitable giving program. Employees and owners are welcome to give points through the site as well."

The organization I work for had just received US-AID funding for a project to bring credit unions into the area. Our team down there is okay, but conditions are terrible. You can donate to our foundation to help with relief efforts. https://www.woccu.org/give

GE announced a commitment of US$2.5 million to support relief and recovery efforts in the area. Grants from GE Foundation have been made to American Red Cross for US $1 million and to U.S. Fund for UNICEF for US$500,000. GE's contributions to both organizations will provide immediate support to the emergency response efforts and bring much needed relief to the millions of impacted Haitians. The additional $1 million will be donated shortly to help with longer term recovery.  GE is also matching employee contributions to eligible relief organizations.

Rosen Hotels & Resorts has announced plans to raise at least US$1 million in donations and collect first aid, medical and hygiene supplies for earthquake victims in Haiti. President and COO Harris Rosen jump-started the campaign with a personal donation of $250,000. Approximately 30 percent of Rosen Hotels & Resorts associates are from Haiti or are of Haitian descent. Grief counselors were made available via the Rosen Medical Center and Family Outreach Center.

Four years ago, Rosen played host to the Water for Haiti benefit to raise $350,000 and purchase portable water purification systems for Haiti. The hotel chain regularly sends soap to the country and had accumulated more than 50,000 bars that it was going to ship prior to the earthquake. The soap will now be sent along with the other medical and first aid supplies.

My organization re-directed funds to Haiti via Compassion International, following a CSR based team building event recently.  We were pleased to send over $200 to go directly to children affected by the recent devastation.
  • Krista Fleming January 15, 2010

Our company donated $500 to World Vision for their relief efforts.  We also petitioned with One.org to have countries forgive Haiti for any national debt so all money coming in could work toward recovery not paying off old debt.
  • Pat January 15, 2010

George P. Johnson has donated US$20,000 to the Red Cross for relief efforts and will match all employee donations up to an additional $20,000 with a cutoff date of Feb 1st. Our local Japan office is also gathering donations. It's not on the website, but announced internally to all employees.

I'm glad so many in our industry are opening their hearts and wallets to the people of Haiti.

International Medical Corps (IMCWorldwide.org) is one of the best organizations helping in Haiti.  When the tsunami hit in Asia, the Red Cross and Doctors without Borders gave their money and supplies to IMC because they could go in more efficiently and quickly than anyone else.

There's a matching program right now where if you donate now, institutional grants and investors will match every dollar by 23 times!

The Florida Baptist Convention is accepting donations to help with disaster relief in Haiti.  Floirda Baptist have had a very long relationship with the Haitian community.  100% of all donations will be sent to Haiti.  You can donate at www.flbaptist.org.    I have been to Haiti 3 times in the last 3 years and can hardly stand to look at the destruction.  I just want to go the the village we worked in and hug and kiss all the precious children!!
  • Kevin Priger January 18, 2010

I would only recommend an organization which I have supported in the past, and I know will make every effort to utilize local resources already in Haiti, not simply bring in relief supplies and leave.  Samaritan's Purse has been in Haiti for a number of years and is there to stay.  They already have partnerships in Haiti that are enabling them to get a lot done quickly.

On CNN this evening (1/18) Wolf Blitzer interviewed Dr. Bill Frist, the senator from TN, who is in Haiti with World Medical Mission.   A division of Samaritan's Purse.

I know this organization, and I know how God has used this organization in places like Myanmar, China, and North Korea.   He will certainly do the same in Haiti.

Clean The World has been recycling gently used hotel amenities since Feb 2009 and sent their first shipment to Haiti June 2009. Since them we have recycled and distributed aver 500,000 bars of soap to Haiti.
We have come up with a meeting planner program to help your atendees get involved in the Haiti relief effort.

The MI Association or Realtors is out first participating org this week at the Westin Book Cadillac in Detroit.

If anyone else reading this would like to have their attendees recycle their hotel amenities and have them sent to Haiti instead of the hotel throwing them into the local landfill please contact me at calum.maclean@hotelbaronette.com

You can watch the progress of Clean The World at http://www.cleantheworld.org/blog/default.asp

We have been doing this before the earthquake and we will be doing it long after.

    Thank you.

Since 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) goes to crises zones to service and rebuild.  The American Institute of Philantrophy gives the IRC an A+ and Forbes Investment Guide named the IRC one of 10 Gold Star Charities.
Your generous donations to IRC’s Haitian earthquake relief efforts will help provide mobile health clinics, life saving drugs and medical supplies, water points, containers, sanitation and bathing areas, soap and other hygiene materials, emergency shelter, blankets, plastic sheeting, lamps, fuel, stoves and food and food supplements.
The IRC draws on 75 years of experience responding to emergencies—including their work with Haitian refugees fleeing the Duvalier regime in 1960 and from their continuing efforts to be a lifeline for the Haitian Diaspora in Miami and beyond—to collaborating with local partners to address the earthquake and begin saving lives before conditions worsen. To donate to IRC’s Haitian earthquake relief efforts in the Name of the Meeting and Events Industry as we show our support of this cause, please go to the below link:

    https://www.theirc.org/donate/diy-events

Please be sure to put HAITI006 in the box marked DIY Event Reg ID so that donations can be tracked from the Meeting and Events Industry's solicitation efforts.

Our event called Speak Out for Haiti is an amazing opportunity for professional and personal development and will raise money for the Red Cross.  In 3 days, we have organized a full day of incredible speakers with all aspects of the event fully sponsored so every penny raised will go to the Red Cross.  I will let you know how we fair on the fundraising side but it is humbling and impressive when everyone came together on a moment’s notice to make this possible.  Be sure to check out the website www.speakoutforhaiti.com and if you have any contacts on the East Coast, we ask you to forward the information to them.  Can you also distribute this to other MPI Chapter leaders and ask them to forward it to anyone in their contact list that might be interested?  This was an incredible collaboration between MPI Atlantic Canada Chapter and CAPS.
