The European Chapter Leaders Forum (ECLF)

In the last weekend of September 34 European Chapter Leaders from all 11 European chapters gathered in Antwerp (Belgium) for their annual European Chapter Leaders Forum. Some of the European Council members also stayed for this event and we welcomed one guest from South Africa. We hereby would like to provide you with the post-event information (see links below).

The central theme of the conference was “Think differently to lead more effectively”, which was completely in line with the CLF which has been held during the WEC in Montreal and the Canadian Leadership U that was held in August in Banff. The discussions were focusing on the re-imagination process with the chapters.

The weekend has been a big success and I truly believe that we managed to get this group to think different about the future of their chapters. A couple of comments were:

  • So far this is the best leadership forum I've been to. This format gave an outcome that was much better than anything I've experienced before. We all learned while discussing, and the following plenary discussion added further value.
  • First step, of what will be a difficult, but hopefully ultimately productive journey to increase the global relevance of MPI.
  • This conference/forum, was the best I have so far attended over the past years. I wish the IBOD and the European office can convince the CEO to hold the ECLF two to three times a year, because it unites the European chapters and you can see, that they all are slowly but surely forming a European alliance.
  • Fantastic event- very inspiring in many ways and it would be great for more board members to get to experience this. We have already felt a new energy within the chapter!

The on-line survey was accessible until October 12th.  You can now see a summary of the results and comments:http://www.surveymonkey.com/sr.aspx?sm=8m7r0HNpGnbEU8RGEOIXXlyZAkT8Ij8tfh1uD6HurTg_3d

The input from this grouphas been added to the feedback that we have from the other in-person Chapter Leaders Forum environments and has been provided to the International Chapter Leaders Committee (ICLC) for further reflection. This process was another step of designing a new business model for MPI Chapters. A Co-creation session with facilitators has recently been held in Dallas. This has helped us in identifying the next steps. As an initial step in designing the new business model we will start building a balanced scorecard (BSC). MPI leadership will outline a “straw model” Chapter Business Scorecard containing strategic objectives and measures (reflecting the input from the in-person CLF sessions). Next the chapters will be engaged in the process of developing the Chapter BSC, using the straw model as a starting point.  Finally, the performance management platform will need to be finalized and a customized dashboard template will be shared with each chapter.

Listed below you will find bulleted next steps in the process that will be of particular interest to chapter leaders.

  • October 24 – November 21: Discussion on Chapter Leaders Message Board at http://www.mpiweb.org/cms/mpiweb/messageboard/standardboard.aspx?ForumId=13
  • December: Update to chapter leaders regarding proposed dashboard metrics
  • December/January: Chapter Business Managers will communicate with and/or meet with each of their chapters regarding current benchmarks.
  • January: Conduct annual membership satisfaction survey, to include chapter focused questions.
  • February 2: PEC-NA Chapter Leaders Forum
  • March/May: Chapter Business Managers will consult with each chapter to determine individual chapter performance metrics for the 2008-2008 fiscal year.
  • April/May: Chapter role specific training
  • June 20-22: Chapter Leaders Conference

Together we will evolve, re-imagine, elevate and build our community.
