What is the Global Training Plan?
The MPI Global Training Plan is a 7 step plan that will support the training needs for our community at all levels of your career
- Skills Assessment
Regardless of their point of entry into the industry, the learning journey of our members begins with the online Skills Assessment exercise that identifies critical experience, knowledge, and skill gaps and then provides a prescriptive and personalized development plan for closing those gaps. (Currently under development) - Global Certificate in Meetings and Business Events I
For those who possess little industry experience (between 0 and 3 years of experience), MPI offers the Certificate in Meetings and Business Events I, launched in November 2008. This certificate, based on an internationally consistent Body of Knowledge and therefore easily transferable, equips our members with proficiencies to organize the logistics of meetings and events. (available) - Global Certificate in Meetings and Business Events II
For those who possess between 3 and 5 years of experience in the meetings industry, MPI offers the Certificate in Meetings and Business Events II. This certificate, based on an internationally consistent Body of Knowledge and therefore easily transferable, will provide meeting and business event professionals learning and development opportunities that focus upon “meeting and business events operations,” and provides a stepping stone towards the knowledge requirements for passing the CMP Exam. (Under development). - Certified Meeting Professional - The Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) program is a confirmation of acquired skills and competencies. The CMP is a global professional designation delivered by the Convention Industry Council (CIC). To successfully pass and prepare for the CMP Exam, MPI offers the CMP Exam Online Study Guide and support-group study aids. (Launched in June 2008)
- Global Certificate in Meetings and Business Events III

(Under development) - Global Certificate in Meetings and Business Events IV
For those who are at an advanced level in their career, MPI offers the Certificate in Meetings and Business Events IV. This certificate program will provide meeting and business event professionals learning and development opportunities that focus on demonstrating organizational performance and business results through the management and the design of meetings and business events. Meeting and business event professionals are expected to speak the language of business and to evaluate and explain the value of meetings as a critical element of organizational success. (under development). - Certification in Meetings Management
The Certification in Meetings Management (CMM) is a designation for advanced and senior industry professionals. It is looking at the business of meetings as well as business management modules related to meetings. (available) - Executive Leadership Program
For our most senior and executive level industry professionals who have progressed beyond the need for meeting and event management education, MPI is developing a leadership program (e.g., MBA level, focused on business executive leadership skills) for presentation at its conferences or as a stand-alone opportunity, along with opportunities for on-going engagement between members of this community.
Available at any point in the learning journey will be an array of training and career development opportunities (e.g., live events, distance learning, searchable web content, magazine, chapter programs) that will allow for continuous learning between milestones. Also contributing to the learning journey are the on-the-job experiences, and other training and education (e.g., university degrees).

The curriculum co-creation group and the Body of Knowledge Task Force met back-to-back in Toronto mid-August and several members actually belong to both groups. This is a group of professionals and academics that was assembled to assist MPI Management to create the curriculum for the certificate programs.

The participants met one or (ideally) several of the following criteria: be intimately familiar with the CMBE Level program and requirements, be intimately familiar with the knowledge requirements to pass the CMP Exam, be intimately familiar with the CMM program and requirements, and be able to represent a global perspective (e.g., having worked and/or delivered training globally). What will the relationship, if any, be between the Global Training Centers and the faculty community?
MPI Management will ensure that there is a robust dialogue and relationship between the two communities. Actually, the faculty members of the Global Training Centers will be an integral part of the faculty community but certainly not its only component.
Will representatives from the Global Training Centers be the only people who ‘sit at the table’ in putting forth educational and research initiatives supported by MPI? What about institutions who are not selected or who do not apply to be Global Training Centers? Won’t they be disenfranchised?
Absolutely not. The selected MPI Global Training Centers are a distribution channel for the MPI certificate and certification programs. For example, the Request for Proposals to develop the curricula was sent to a much wider audience. Another example is that the Certificate in Meetings and Business Events – Level I will also be distributed by other partners than the Global Training Centers. MPI will continue to work with the entire Faculty Community on the advancement of the industry and certainly not restrict its partnerships to the Global Training Centers.

Are there any scholarship programs available?
