You need to lead your project team through the planning of your meetings and business events, and they look to you to give them strategic direction, to set the meeting objectives, to create the overall project plan. They expect you to lead them to a successful execution of the event.
Meetings and events are increasingly under scrutiny and the demonstration of results (whether financial or other) and clear measurement are now part of the job description of a project leader. This module will give you the tools to plan your projects strategically and to lead your team to success, as well as give you the tools to demonstrate the value of your meetings and business events through clear measurement, financial management, and reporting.

Strategic Planning for Projects

  • Set meeting objectives.
  • Perform trends and environmental scanning.

  • Determine the risk management plan.

Measurement

  • Understand the importance of measurement.
  • Identify and use the appropriate measurement models to reach the objectives of the meeting.

  • Develop financial objectives and secure resources.
  • Identify and allocate available financial resources.
  • Develop a budget.
  • Establish pricing.
  • Establish financial controls and procedures.

Relationship Management

As a meeting and business event project leader, you need to engage with numerous stakeholders, both internal and external. You’ll need to identify these stakeholders, assess them, and, most importantly, classify them. Who will get you attention, when, and for what?
Making sure your attendees’ experience is unforgettable is one of the main reasons for holding your meeting or event. You will need to make sure everybody involved treats your attendees with the best service in mind. Sometimes you will need to have “crucial conversations” with your stakeholders (internal or external). In this module, you will learn how to go about making those conversations not only crucial, but easy.

After participating in this session, you will be able to:

  • Engage stakeholders (identify, assess, classify).
  • Manage attendance and customer service
  • Have effective crucial conversations.

Creating Project Plans

In this module, you will learn how to develop a project plan based on historical data, taking into account the desired results and objectives for your project. You will learn how to establish project milestones for your team and to identify and manage the critical path.

Based on your project objectives, you will also learn to identify the best way to reach you audience. You will look at the best structure and sequence for your program and select the program content and delivery formats, while understanding different audiences might retain information in different ways. You will touch upon the main principles of adult learning make the most impact with your attendees.

After participating in this session, you will be able to:

  • Design an event to achieve meeting objectives.
  • Establishing milestones and critical path.
  • Apply the principles of meeting design and adult learning.
  • Identify and apply alternative meeting formats.

A project needs a lot of human resources to be successful. To acquire, train, and manage the staff and volunteers necessary for your meeting or business event requires specific skills.

Marketing Communications

As John D. Rockefeller said, “Next to doing the right thing, the most important thing is to let people know you are doing the right thing.” This module will teach you how to develop and implement a marketing plan, how to promote and advertise your project, and how to conduct appropriate public relations activities.

After participating in this session, you will be able to:

  • Conduct situational analysis.
  • Define target market segments.
  • Develop positioning and an identity for event.
  • Develop an integrated marketing strategy.
  • Implement marketing plan.
  • Develop an advertising plan.
  • Develop cross-promotional activities.

Cancellation Policy

MPI must be notified in writing of all cancellations and transfers. If you are admitted to a program, but find that you are unable to attend, you have the following cancellation and transfer options:

 

  • Up to six weeks before program start:
    • Cancellation: You receive a full refund of the program fee.
    • Transfer: You may transfer to the next available session with no transfer fee.
Note: MPI programs tend to be fully booked well in advance. Space may not be available in a later session.
  • From six weeks to up to 11 days before program start:
    • Cancellation: You incur a 50% cancellation fee.
    • Transfer: You incur a 20% transfer fee.
  • Within 10 days before program start:
    • Cancellation: You incur a 100% cancellation fee.
    • Transfer: No transfer possible at this point.

Substitution

A participant can be substituted on the same program session without incurring any fees. The substitue needs to apply and be admitted.

Note: Once you have paid the program tuition fee, if you do not attend another program within 12 months, the program fee will be forfeited.
