The Center for Disease Control (CDC) predicts that 30–50% of the population is expected to come down with the H1N1 virus this flu season. How can you show your C-level stakeholders that you have an effective plan for dealing with the possible effects this might have on their meeting or event? Julia Rutherford Silvers, CSEP, author of Risk Management for Meetings and Events (Butterworth-Heinemann, 2008) will cover the various effects that H1N1 could have on a live communication business event and the strategies you can employ to mitigate them through preparedness planning.

Julia Silvers's Biography

Julia Rutherford Silvers, CSEP is an author, educator, and consultant in event management. She has authored two highly acclaimed industry books, Risk Management for Meetings and Events (Butterworth‐Heinemann, 2008) and Professional Event Coordination (Wiley, 2004), as well as award winning training programs and research. In addition, she is the originator of the Event Management Body of Knowledge (EMBOK) Project, an educational resource on her web site that illustrates and examines the scope of knowledge and processes used in the events industry. A four‐time International Special Events Society (ISES) Esprit Award winner for Best Industry Contribution for her educational programs, Julia has served as an industry consultant for the George Washington University Event Management Certificate Program, the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), and the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council. She is a frequent speaker at industry conferences throughout the world, has been a Special Lecturer at universities in Colombia, Jordan, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority, and Puerto Rico, and has served as an adjunct faculty member of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and UNLV Singapore Ltd.
