THE PROJECT
As MPI Delegates are soon to discover, Cancun and the surrounding areas, are places of awesome natural beauty and top level service. But parallel to this sheltered existence, there are many people living below the poverty line. 70% of the children in the area are “temporarily abandoned” each day due to the fact that both parents need to work to support their family. These children often end up on the streets or alone at home.
Save the Children Mexico created a network of “Ludotecas” or Playing Centers where girls and boys can go to before and after school instead of being on the street or alone at home. In the Ludotecas, the charity provides safe and loving environments, where they can stimulate children’s psychomotor skills and their social and intellectual abilities, hoping to develop their emotional intelligence. Today, they operate 11 Ludotecas which are attended by more than 1,000 kids. For more information about Save the Children Mexico, click here.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
We need your help! In lieu of an offsite community service project we have decided to offer a project that everyone can participate in.
Please join your fellow MeetDifferent attendees sort and organize much needed educational equipment and supplies used in the Ludotecas including crayons, markers, paper, glue and musical instruments. The items will be set up in the Expo Center at Moon Palace on Monday, February 22 from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Attendees are invited to take a few minutes to stop by and help us sort and organize the items to prepare them for delivery to Save the Children.
Thanks for your support!
