Virtual events, social media, and rich interactive media have become all the buzz; but what does it all mean to you right now? What do you need to know in order to build your digital blueprint in a way that drives results and keeps you and your program safely on the front edge?

In this highly interactive session a panel of leading industry experts will demystify the most important digital formats you need to understand now by focusing on real world examples of virtual events, social media, and rich interactive media as applied by some of the best known corporate brands. No pipe dreams. No far flung theories. Just real examples from events taking place over the last 12 months. Featured will be a tour through the 2009 virtual sales meeting of Cisco, “Cisco GSX,” an event that broke new ground, incorporated all three digital formats, and is setting the pace for digital in the events industry.

You’ll go on a tour through the virtual elements of Cisco GSX, hear from the experts who created it, and take part in a social media enabled discussion of how it was done, what results it created, and what you need to know now to apply these learning’s to your own situation. Examples from other recent events will be provided too.

In this practical, 75 minute session, there will be something for everyone as this information will position you to get started on creating your own digital blueprint so you can get to work right away in bringing just the right amount of digital experience to your event program. In addition, the panel promises a brief showcase of a brand new spin on virtual just coming to market; robotic virtual presence.

About the Presenters

Tim SandersTim Sanders

Tim Sanders speaks for strong business relationships , both internal and external. “Get them right,” he says, “and you’ll grow your business during good and bad times alike.”

His relevant point of view makes him one of the most in demand speakers on the conference and convention circuit. His expertise, and deep research capabilities make him an indispensible consultant to some of the biggest brands in the world. His Los Angeles based company, Deeper Media, conducts research on business trends, new media and human behavior.

Tim has valuable experience in cuttingedge businesses, sales and marketing. He’s weathered the quality movement as well as the dotcom crash and emerged with precious insight. He was the Chief Solutions Officer at Yahoo! and later their Leadership Coach. Prior to these senior positions Tim created and led the Yahoo! ValueLab, an in-house “think tank” which delivered futuristic insight on technology and human behavior. He was an early member of Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner’s broadcast.com, the most successful opening day IPO in history.

His first book, Love Is the Killer App: How To Win Business and Influence Friends is a New York Times and international business best seller, translated in a dozen languages. It stresses the importance of knowledge sharing, networking and compassion. His follow up, The Likeability Factor, explains the concept of emotional talent and the importance of creating an engaging experience. It was the basis for a PBS Special, produced by leading affiliate WQED.

His newest book, Saving The World At Work, examines the external relationship between a business, its people and society. It makes a strong business case for CSR and sustainability being at the top of a company’s strategic agenda. The book was named as one of the top 30 business books of 2008 by Executive Soundview.

His work is frequently featured in the media, most recently in The New York Times, Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal and Fast Company.

He was born in Clovis, New Mexico. He attended Loyola Marymount University and studied in the graduate school of communications at the University of Arizona.

Angie Smith is Senior Manager, Global Sales Experience and Global Sales Operations for Cisco Systems, where she leads a team that produces the annual Global Sales Meeting and most recently, evolved that key internal event into the now-virtual Global Sales Experience (GSX).  A 15-year veteran of the event and experience marketing industry, she has experience in all facets of marketing campaign development and execution, including content strategy, attendee experience, technology integration and overall operational excellence.  She is recognized by the industry and general business press for merging Web 2.0 and other technology-driven communication platforms into traditional event marketing programs and has been tapped by publications such as Event Marketer Magazine, BtoB Magazine, Special Events, Virtual Edge, Successful Meeting, 1:1 Magazine and other leading titles and analyst reports for her insight into this emerging best practice.  A recent recipient of the Event Marketer EX Award for “Best Virtual Event”, Angie is excited to be sharing her experience with MPI.


Kenny LauerKenny Lauer

Kenny Lauer is Executive Director, Digital Experience at George P. Johnson where he leads GPJ's worldwide digital practice. In this capacity he enables many of the world's premier brands to complement their traditional marketing mix with new strategy, message development and distribution formats arising from digital platforms and technologies. He is a specialist in the use and integration of experience marketing, social media and virtual experiences into clients' customer engagement and relationship strategies. Lauer is a former technology evangelist with Apple Computers and served in key client engagements for KPMG as an IT integrator and with Peppers and Rogers as a CRM strategist. He is 1 of 73 people worldwide awarded the elite "Certified Experience Economy Expert" designation from Strategic Horizons' founder Joe Pine and Jim Gilmore, authors of the best-selling business book The Experience Economy.
