Why should I attend the European Meetings & Events Conference (EMEC)? Who attends EMEC?
If you want to meet and interact with leaders in the European meeting and event industry,
then this conference is definitely for you! Our diverse program over two and a half days is
designed to generate new ideas, innovations and industry best practice. Held in a different
European destination each year, EMEC is also a great opportunity to experience the local
culture, hospitality and infrastructure available for your own meetings and events in the
future. If you're not already an MPI member, sign up during the EMEC registration process
and you’ll pay less to attend the conference.
When does the conference begin and end?
EMEC participants are meeting and event planners and suppliers, along with students and
faculty from hospitality, tourism and business schools. They are motivated industry
professionals from across Europe and beyond who come together to discuss current topics,
trends and best practices; learn from their peers; and network with colleagues and clients.
Once again for 2017, we are inviting Hosted Buyers from across Europe to join our program.
We are also co-locating the European Chapter Business Summit (ECBS), a two-day invitationonly
event open to chapter volunteer leaders from the 13 European chapters.

Education Where can I find out what education sessions are being offered at EMEC 2017?
Do I have to pre-register for education sessions?
Visit the Programme at a Glance for more details.
Why does my name badge need to be scanned prior to entering a session?
Some pre-conference sessions and some limited seating sessions require pre-registration.
This will be noted in the title of the session. All other sessions are available to registered
EMEC participants on a first come, first served basis. While it is possible to add a session to
your schedule via the website or mobile app, this tool is meant for planning purposes only
and is not a form of registration and you will not be guaranteed a seat in a session. We
recommend that you arrive at the designated meeting room at least 15 minutes prior to the
start of the session to avoid disappointment. You may also wish to note an alternative
session you wish to attend during a particular time slot in case your first choice is not
available. Please note that session rooms are set to help foster a creative learning
environment and include the maximum number of seats allowed per the local Fire Marshal.
What is the maximum number of clock hours I can receive at EMEC 2017?
We scan all participants entering EMEC sessions for multiple reasons. We record how many
participants attend each session to assist with planning our educational content for the
future. And, we scan to provide participants with their list of sessions attended as well as
the clock hours needed for professional designations, such as the Certified Meeting
Professional (CMP). If you are an MPI member, the clock hours will be added to your
transcript within six weeks of the conference. Please review and verify that your contact
hours are correct by going to mpiweb.org and logging into your profile.
What is EMEC for Me?
Most of the sessions at EMEC 2017 will provide contact hours towards your CMP application
or re-certification. MPI is working with the Convention Industry Council (CIC) to ensure the
most up-to-date and accurate information about which sessions are eligible according to the
CIC International Standards is available to participants. All sessions that are eligible for
contact hours will be noted on the website and mobile app.
