Farm 2 Table

MPI Kansas City Chapter members will share a leisurely, four-course and farm-style dinner at scenic Wolfe Farm on Sept. 24 during an event that is open to the general public and will teach the importance of local and organic ingredients and meals. The dinner is just part of the chapter’s growing CSR program, which includes the preparation and execution of the annual Professional Education Conference (PEC).

“Now more than ever, it’s necessary to support our local farmers and businesses,” Chapter President Michelle Lizak, CMP, said. “Kansas City, like many other metropolitan areas, has been affected by the decline in meeting and events. Our chapter is trying to do our part to support our local industry and be socially responsible.”

Lizak says the September event will not only raise funds for chapter education and scholarship programs, but most importantly it will show the organization’s support for local farmers and provide an example of others. The cost is US$75 and includes transportation, meal, beverages and all gratuities. The event marks one in a long line of Kansas City programs that have proved the value of CSR and green meeting.

At the 2009 PEC, the chapter instituted several programs over and above those of the host hotel including exclusively online registration and event reminders, the provision of reusable water bottles, jump drives for handouts, paper and can recycling and cloth and recycled napkins.
