Jeff Daigle, MPI Creative Director:

“The behind-the-scenes story of the November cover design is an interesting one. But, I don’t want to unearth demons long dormant and upset our graphic designer, whose initial (brilliant) cover design was deemed too close to trademark violation by the powers-that-be. Alas, he had to scrap two days worth of guerilla photography and makeshift Photoshop work. What you see here was my quick back up solution. Of course, it wins a regional design award. (Sorry, Jason. I accept it in your honor.)

“For this design, it was challenging to represent the maelstrom of media coverage concerning the US economic downturn and adhere to our “white space” approach to One+ cover design. Ultimately we found one media headline that best represented the media circus, and used it to trail the spiraling U.S currency. It’s a literal design solution that remains conceptual enough to not be obvious. Thankfully the ASBPE judges agreed."
