Big news in the Caribbean. Baha Mar, a resort on The Bahamas, celebrated commencement of construction with its official groundbreaking
ceremony on Monday, Feb. 21. The 1,000-acre, US$3.4 billion resort, gaming and entertainment complex,
slated to open in late 2014, will include some of the world’s most famous hotel brands such as a Sheraton (700 guest rooms), a Wyndham (550 guest rooms), the Rosewood Luxury Hotel (200 guest rooms) the Grand Hyatt Convention Hotel (700 guest rooms), the Casino Hotel (1,000 guest rooms) and a Morgan’s branded Lifestyle Hotel (300 guest rooms).
Baha Mar will include the largest convention center in The Bahamas, with 200,000 square feet of space,
which can also double as an entertainment venue and sports arena. Baha Mar will also include a 100,000-square-foot casino, a 50,000-square-foot retail village and a 20-acre water park.
The resort will create up to 7,000 new jobs.
