Last Friday, Omni Hotels & Resorts officially opened its doors to its newest offering in Dallas, with Larry Hagman and Linda Gray from the original hit TV show Dallas on-hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremonies.
The hotel is, without a doubt, a work of art. First impressions of the place were that it had the right amount of Texas, pizazz and style all wrapped into one magnificent package.
On the 22nd floor, where ribbon-cutting attendees were allowed to tour, the floor-to-ceiling windows gave way to wonderful views of downtown Dallas and the surrounding areas.
All throughout the ceremony I kept hearing about how the city of Dallas needed a convention center hotel like the Omni and how it would be such a crown jewel in the city. Those anecdotes were right on. From the wide-open spaces in the lobby to the luxurious ballrooms, it was safe to say that no detail or expense was spared to create such a destination-worthy property.
The numbers surely back it up. Since the hotel’s announcement in May 2009, 55 citywide meetings have been booked, compared to 18 in the 24 months leading up to the announcement.
For meeting planners, the Omni should breathe new life into downtown Dallas for years to come.
