    Doug,

I absolutely agree with you about face to face interaction at events as well as the integration of mobile applications about the event.  Infocomm is one event that does have a fairly good mobile app.  you can see more about this at -  http://m.core-apps.com/infocomm12  - (from last year)

But people want to talk (text) about what they are seeing now at events and a good way to do that is with a product called CommuniType.   CommuniType is a Social media visualization platform that provides collection and display technology for events where clients want to see users and audience responses live.  This system collects content live via any of the social sites like twitter, RSS, E-mail, IM texting, Etc...   It then allows an on-site graphics engineer to filter that data quickly into appropriate and meaningful content and have it immediately visualized onscreen in customizable and unique ways.  WorldStage is the exclusive event provider for this technology.  To see an example of CommuniType and learn more please go to - http://youtu.be/s17sfGuFRQE
