P is for Panel, and it’s time to pick ‘em for SXSW 2014. The PanelPicker process gives people the opportunity to have a voice in programming the SXSW conference.
For SXSW Interactive 2014, there are several proposed panels up for voting that relate to the meeting and event industry. This is great, because it gives the meeting and event industry a chance to be more integrated into mainstream culture. You can call it grassroots or advocacy or what have you. I call it opportunity.
PanelPicker voting ends on September 6, so please vote for the following proposed sessions.
Community and Events: Establishing the Connection
“Community support is an essential component to any successful event, and successful events can benefit their communities for years to come. This meet-up seeks to unite event organizers and community leaders to share ideas, experiences and explore the possibilities a sustainable partnership can have beyond economic impact.”
Making a Big Impact on a Small Budget with Events
“It may surprise you to learn in the age of declining attendance at expos and trade shows, that there are events growing faster than ever, with 10, 20 even 60,000 attendees, and the cost to market at them is low. In this session, we will cover what kind of events might be under your radar, how to flex your creative marketing muscle and most importantly how to make your company’s dollar stretch further.”
The Sense Event: Future of Immersive Entertainment
“The panel will present and discuss a broad range of immersive entertainment approaches and augmented experiences such as sensation enhancement, collaborative improvisation, spatial transformation, story and dialog management and narrative play. It will also explore the convergence of multiple technologies and media interfaces that are changing the experience landscape.”
Events vs. Experiences: How to Win Your Audience
“In a world of endless choices, it’s trickier for brands to capture their audiences, and they must be more creative in how they connect with people—whether online or in real life events. With the right idea and funding, anyone can pull off a great event; but how do you go further and create an experience that’s aligned with the brand and lives on long after the event is over?”
Your #Hashtag is Your Event
“Twitter changes everything. That’s especially true for events. So do smartphones, tablets, Instagram, YouTube, Vine and lots of other new tools and technologies. Please join us for our 3rd annual Interactive Core Conversation for the Event Community at SXSW. We’ll explore the latest best practices and learn from each other. If you put on events, sponsor events, make tools for events or just love events, please join us.”
How to Put on a Badass TEDx Event
“This session is hosted by TEDx organizers from two of the largest and most successful TEDx events in the world: TEDxKC and TEDxAustin. Learn how to license and put on a badass TEDx (or similar) event for your community or business from veteran organizers.”
Also, Thom Singer (MPI Texas Hill Country Chapter) is vying for a vote. Let’s rally and get his session selected for SXSW Interactive.
Beyond the Elevator—Know Your Purpose
“If you want to establish more meaningful relationships, you must invest in creating a deeper engagement in all your conversations. ‘Beyond the Elevator’ will be more than a presentation, but an interactive exploration of purpose that will help all who attend in their efforts to grow their career.”
