The Year Ahead

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The future depends on what you do today.” To me, this means making the most of every day to sustain our association’s success and ensure we are delivering the best experience to our members and the broader MPI community. And I am excited that your MPI Global team and our volunteer leaders join me in embracing this same mindset.

MPI is already off to a wonderful start in 2018! We commenced January by welcoming several new members to our international board of directors and the MPI Foundation’s global board. Their collective leadership experience and expertise will be invaluable as we work towards advancing our strategic plans to grow MPI and add value to our membership.

Additionally, we hired Nicole Edmund, an experienced and talented leader, to serve as our new vice president of community, with responsibility for the engagement, growth and overall satisfaction of MPI’s global chapter network and membership community. She has more than 20 years of experience as an association management professional and most recently served as the associate vice president of membership and chapter relations for Women in Cable Telecommunications. She previously held leadership roles with the National Retail Federation and the National Association of Women Business Owners, and also spent three years with Walmart Stores Inc., where she managed acquisition efforts of nearly 600 Sam’s Clubs throughout the U.S.

We kicked off 2018 by gathering with more than 600 industry professionals, including many of our European members, for a memorable experience at our Global Forum in Rome co-hosted with SITE. MPI Italia Chapter member and past president Olimpia Ponno described it as “a unique and unrepeatable opportunity for the capital, for the citizens and a cultural signal of historical significance for Europe and the world, under the banner of collaboration…to make a difference and leave a mark!” The “Eternal City” left a lasting impression on us, as we made new friends, developed new connections and garnered innovative new ideas to drive our success in 2018.

But, this is just the beginning for MPI in 2018. Over the next 11 months, we will continue to move MPI forward by increasing the resources to support our chapters and chapter leaders, creating fresh and innovative education offerings to help you advance in your career, re-imagining the World Education Congress (WEC), collaborating with strategic partners to advocate for our industry and much more.

Stay tuned for announcements and updates throughout the year that further demonstrate that when we meet, we change the world. We wish you all the best for a healthy, happy and prosperous 2018! Carpe diem!
