CMP Information

CMP LogoThe Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) program is the foremost certification of the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry and recognizes individuals who have achieved the industry’s highest standard of professionalism. The Events Industry Council (EIC) established the CMP program in 1985 to enhance the knowledge and performance of meeting professionals, promote the status and credibility of the meeting profession, and advance uniform standards of practice. Through the CMP program, individuals who are employed in meeting management pursue continuing education, increase their industry involvement and gain industry-wide recognition.

Some of the many benefits of the CMP designation include:

  • Competitive marketing advantage
  • Authority to use the CMP designation on letterhead, business cards, and all forms and address.
  • Professional development
  • Networking – including exclusive CMP programs and the annual CMP Conclave
  • Your listing on the CMP online directory

The requirements for certification are based on professional experience and a written examination. It is the responsibility of the Certified Meeting Professional Board to establish policies and procedures for the CMP program. The CMP board also serves as the voice for stakeholders dedicated to maintaining the highest industry standards. The CMP exams are developed and monitored by the board.

The exams administered by Prometric, an independent testing company, who also scores the exam, sends the results to EIC and stores exam records. CMP Exams are written 3-4 times yearly in various parts of the United States, Overseas as well as through testing centers within Canada including a location in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
