This session will explore communication strategies for both employees and employers/managers/supervisors to have that conversation about mental health issues, with the overall goal to help educate and increase awareness in the workplace.

About Sarah:

Born and raised in Nova Scotia, Sarah Pettipas has worked in the field of Health Promotion for the past 11 years – holding various positions in government and non-government organizations. She is a graduate of the BSc Health Promotion program, and the BSc Psychology program at Dalhousie University. She also holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Waterloo. Sarah has worked in the areas of Injury Prevention, Community Development, and most recently in Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness at Nova Scotia Health Authority. During her career, Sarah has enjoyed facilitating and guest lecturing for diverse groups, from child care staff to college and university students and academic conferences. As a Workplace Health Promotion Coordinator at Nova Scotia Health Authority, part of Sarah’s role includes facilitation for health care staff on reducing stigma of mental health illnesses at work (The Working Mind Program from the Mental Health Commission of Canada) and work on other population health initiatives for the health care workforce such as policy development, program planning and evaluation, as well as data analysis and research. Sarah lives with her husband on the beautiful Eastern Shore, enjoys spending time with family, travel and everything crafty and DIY.
