MPI-CAC takes on WEC19 in Toronto

Close to 90 MPI-CAC members visited the Great White North in mid-June to take part in education, networking, and fun through shared experiences during the MPI WEC19. From pre-conference sessions for Chapter Leaders to motivational general sessions and educational breakouts to networking on the beach and dancing at Rendezvous – a great time was had by all.

The Chapter Business Summit gave incoming chapter leaders the opportunity to network and share best practices with other chapters from around the world. With sessions focused on education, leadership, membership and communications, the MPI-CAC leadership is bringing back amazing tools and ideas for this new fiscal year.

General sessions on Day 1 included Ving Giang, who spoke on the psychology of illusion while pulling off some great magic, and an inspiring presentation from Dear World about the meaningful stories we all have to tell. The Hot List™ from Michael Cerbelli showcased new trends in the event entertainment space. The Monday general sessions closed out with several stories, the biggest of which was three leaders from Canada MPI chapters (Marie-Franc Watson, Ryan Young, and Tim Whalen) sharing the story of their shared experience with creating and running The Event, a combined educational conference for their three chapters – amazingly motivational. The final day Jade Simmons wowed the attendees with her unique music skills.

The Village Floor housed the breakout sessions in areas of focus on Innovation, Leadership, Social and Experiential Design. Among the breakout sessions offered were the “Boss Up” panel of women leaders in the industry, creating a competitive advantage from customer experiences, diversity and inclusion in the industry and extending that out to the events we plan, education and engagement theories and practices, IACC’s meeting room of the future, crisis communications and how to handle emergencies, new technologies available for event planners, and using disruption as a way to fuse design thinking and inclusion.
