Local industry professional and friend to many of us, Maureen Beck passed away May 5, 2017, from cancer. We extend our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.
For those who knew Maureen, your introduction likely occurred while she worked with her sister Barb Thavis at Select Meeting Sites. For many years the “site selection sisters” were a fixture at chapter and industry events. Their mother also worked with them, making it a true family affair. You may remember Maureen for her ability to focus on YOU as if you were the most important person around. And that’s exactly how you felt when you spent time with her. Or you may remember her hearty laugh and obvious zest for life. And if you didn’t know Mo, you missed out on having the privilege to be acquainted with of one of the best of us, a true servant of humanity, a steward of the planet and a delightfully kind, fun-loving, joyful person.
Maureen was not one to take up only the big, grandiose cause, but rather she sought out the most underserved, least supported among us, whose needs are most overlooked, where she could have high, if quiet, impact. On so many levels, she will be deeply missed.
Among her numerous charitable passions is Cayce Charities, a grass-roots emergency assistance organization which provides food, clothing and other assistance to terribly impoverished people in south Arkansas, a depressed region with virtually no employment opportunities. Memorial contributions in honor of Maureen Beck may be sent to Cayce Charities, P.O. Box 38, Thornton, AR 71766.
