Although we interact with hospitality as a business, it is immensely valuable to understand its psychological, sociological, and even mythological dimensions. In this interactive workshop, Dr. Stacey Zackin will share insights from her dissertation, The Psychology of Hospitality: Creating Welcoming & Inclusive Environments.

We Will Explore:

-  The reciprocity of the guest-host relationship

-  The distinction between the act of doing hospitality and the art of being hospitable

-  The psychological challenges of making others feel welcomed, included, appreciated, engaged, and empowered

-  The gift of welcoming the unwanted visitor

Meet Our Speaker:


Dr. Stacey Zackin

Dr. Zackin is the Manager of WORK_SPACE, a municipally owned and operated collaborative coworking and meeting space in Manchester, CT. She has served 3+ years as an Adjunct Professor in the School of Business at the University of Connecticut, 4+ years as the host of THE WORK & PLAYLIST -  music and interview show on WESU Radio, and has 15+ years of experience as Life & Executive Coach through her consulting and speaking practice, theCoach4you.

Learning Objectives: 

1. Discuss the psychological elements of creating welcoming and inclusive environments

2. Demonstrate the connection between historical, mythological, and theological hospitality and the contemporary practicalities of customer service

3. Articulate how their own personal inclinations, talents, and strengths aid in their professional work in the hospitality industry

4. Incorporate three attitudes or action steps that will enhance a culture of hospitality in their work environment
