Shawna Suckow will be with us for the day, sharing her knowledge in 2 valuable sessions.

Session 1:  Meetings 3.0:  The Evolution of Success Events:   As the internet and technology have evolved over the past two decades, so have our culture and our learning styles. Today’s audiences are savvier and more diverse than ever before, and expect more from their attendance at our meetings and events. Planners are competing with attendees’ decreased tolerance for “fluff” or talking heads, shortened attention spans, and smart phones. Add to that the challenges of serving different generations and communication styles - what’s a planner to do?

In this session, Shawna Suckow, CMP, will discuss the evolution of technology, our culture, and our generations - and how all three have led to changes in what audiences demand, and what planners must do to meet their needs. She’ll discuss meetings as they have evolved from 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0, showcasing each style so the audience gets a hands-on feel. Participants will learn how to deliver the highest level of ROI and ROA (Return on Attention) depending on the meeting’s goals and objectives, and the audience’s demographics.

Participant Outcomes:

  • Experience several live examples of engagement concepts that participants can apply immediately to their own events.
  • Learn an easy exercise to keep participants connecting post-event
  • Understand R.O.A. and how to deliver it to all generations at events

Session 2: Forget It!  What Meeting Professionals Need to Unlearn in 2019:  As meeting professionals, there are several things that have become habit for us when laying out the logistics for an upcoming event. Just because something has become a habit, though, doesn’t ensure it’s the best solution for us, our stakeholders, or our audience.

In this session, we’ll address and discuss some event practices that need to be forgotten, because they no longer serve our participants. Come prepared to share, challenge norms, and leave old ideas behind!

Participant Outcomes:

  • Learn about new trends in meetings, and evaluate them with a critical eye
  • Discover what your peers are trying, and what’s working/not working for them
  • Walk away with new ideas to invigorate your events
Want to know more about Shawna?

Hi, I’m Shawna Suckow, and here’s some inside info on me. I’m a speaker and emcee with some serious knowledge of consumer behavior. My style has been described as relatable, authentic, insightful and a fun delivery of serious facts.

I was a million-dollar B2B buyer in the hospitality industry for over 20 years. In 2008 I founded an association of B2B buyers, which now has over 2,500 members across North America. I began studying B2B and B2C consumer behavior in earnest in 2009, and speaking to audiences of salespeople, marketers and retailers who were frustrated with the shifting marketplace and the influences of technology. I have written three books, two of which have become best-sellers (can’t win ‘em all, I guess).

What I’m proud of: I’ve now spoken on 5 continents in 16 countries, helping businesses to understand the ever-evolving customer landscape. Honors include being named to the Global Top 100 Women Business & Tech Speakers, Planners' Favorite Speakers lists of 2014 and 2015, and Top 8 Speakers of 2013 (along with James Earl Jones!).

Three memorable things about me: I played in the World Series of Poker Main Event in 2015. I am so good at parallel parking, I should get a trophy. Due to a freak badminton injury, I now wear one contact lens.

When I’m not on the road: I’m back in Minnesota fighting off snow or gigantic mosquitoes (a.k.a. our two seasons). I live with my husband (a weekend Elvis Impersonator), my two teenagers, and my goofy golden retriever named Henry Jones, Jr.
