PROGRAM SCHEDULE

Registration for Session One: 4:00pm-4:30pm
Session One: 4:30pm-5:30pm
Topic: Event technical direction: It’s Just Rocket Science!

By comparing the live event to something as intricate as the space program’s successes and failures it all comes down to just three things, communication, timing, and practice.  By using NASA’s model of launch directors (event planners) and flight directors (technical directors), engineers (AV Technicians), the talent (astronauts), and the viewers (attendees) we break down what it takes to launch an effective program into orbit and bring it safely back to earth.

This is done through an engaging and entertaining learning environment punctuated with a three-step countdown of takeaways to take your event to the next level. We start by focusing on THREE main points, that even though there are hundreds, if not thousands of pieces of equipment on any live event, it can all be broken down into three “types” of equipment.  Source, Processing and Output. By understanding the flow of these three equipment categories we build a simple understanding of how the event technology or AV team prepares, processes, and delivers the live event. As planners we have TWO main pieces of involvement with our AV team that will mean your event reaches the stars or crashes and burns on takeoff.  Communication and Timing.  Learn how to speak the language, build trust through honest communication, and goal definition with your onsite AV team.

About Troy J. Peters, CTS
Troy's background began in motion picture production before migrating to association show management. There he took on the role of managing the Audio Visual logistics at their dozens of events across the globe.

Holding city-wide multi-day conferences with upwards of 20,000 attendees he quickly grew frustrated with not knowing AV. In 2010 he had enough and pursued his knowledge of live event AV technology by becoming a Certified Technology Specialist through Infocomm International. By learning the ins and outs of live event technology he was able talk-the-talk and help the association be a more proactive player in the direction of the ultimate attendee experience.

Troy is currently the VP of Marketing & Business Development with Video West, a national AV provider based in Phoenix, Arizona. He also sits on the MPI Arizona Chapter Executive Board as the VP of Communication and Chairs the Infocomm International Item Writing Committee.

The life portion of his work-life balance consists of family time with his wife and twin four-year-olds living by their family motto to Promote Laughter, Practice Kindness, and Pursue Adventure.
