February President’s Message

As February begins we are on the horizon of some very exciting and ground-breaking months for MPI Ottawa. The latter half of the year plays host to our Chapter’s signature events. Depending on when this message gets published, we may have already hosted our Charity Auction and Dinner! These signature events allow us to showcase the talents of our committees and highlight the strength of our chapter.

The generous nature of our industry is truly at the forefront during the Annual Charity Auction gala. Our Community Outreach Committee has spent countless hours preparing for the fund raising event that benefits two local charities that are making real changes as a result of these efforts. For more information about either of the charities that the proceeds will be shared between, check out their websites: Hopewell and the Ottawa Network for Education: School Breakfast Program.

In February, we will host a tasting tour through the Byward Market. This event is a partnership with Ottawa Venues and offers an experience of three outstanding venues, and a great night out in Ottawa with friends and colleagues. These creative event concepts are the direct result of the commitment of our Member Events committee.

April offers the opportunity for some one of a kind education and ground breaking events. Not only has the Strategic Education committee been developing the educational content for Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) in Ottawa, the Chapter has been working with MPI Toronto and MPI Montreal on The Event! Collaborations that have been months in the making will be the highlight of both these events. As we strive to provide our membership with the opportunity to immerse themselves in outstanding educational opportunities and new experiential and peer to peer learning we are creating events which are a departure from the norm. These events will be the talk of the town and should not be missed.

In May, the Awards and Recognition committee will be recognizing the outstanding contributions that have been made by our membership with the Awards Gala taking place at the National Arts Centre. This is a night to celebrate excellence and we should be truly thankful for the inspiration that our MPI Ottawa volunteers provide. It is an honor to be among this group of people, so think of who you would like to see nominated and take a moment to do so.

As you can see, all of our volunteer committees have been tirelessly working away so that our Chapter can have some amazing and unique opportunities. I am truly thankful for the time they have dedicated to make the Ottawa Chapter exceptional. None of this would be possible without our volunteers, and though you may feel like your work is not noticed or appreciated, that is far from the case. On behalf of myself and the Board, thank you!!!
