New Member Spotlight – Christina Walsh

By: MPISTL | Jan 1, 2018

Christina-WalshChristina Walsh joined MPI St. Louis Area Chapter last month and is ecstatic to be part of the organization.

She wants to take advantage of the offerings and build strong relationships. “I’ve been blown away by the immediate support and I quickly realized how much MPI supports their members.” She says being a member is allowing her to get her business out in front of other members, and it’s what it is all about! Once she settles in, she will join the Membership Committee. Christina says this is the best way to meet people and get engaged.

Christina is the Events and Catering Director for Drunken Fish and 612North Event Space + Catering. She has been in her current position for a year and a half and has been in the industry going on six years.

When asked about her background and how she decided to make this industry her profession, she said, “It has always been a dream of mine to do exactly what I’m doing now. I originally started out working for a division of Nokia. I was in St. Louis for five years, then I received a promotion that moved me, and my now husband, to Chicago. I was an Operations Supervisor and one of my duties was to help plan and execute corporate outings, celebrations, activities, and award programs. After four years in Chicago, my husband and I realized we missed St. Louis enough to make the moved back. I wanted to make a career change from working with clients on a corporate level to a personal level. I wanted to be a part of something special. I thrive on building personal relationships and I needed that to be my career. I was lucky enough to interview with Munsok So, the owner and president of Drunken Fish. He described his next business venture and what he was looking for – and I completely bought in to him and his goals. Meeting Munsok was the luckiest thing I have ever done, professionally. He offered me my dream job, and I will be forever thankful that I am under his wing.”

As the Events and Catering Director for Drunken Fish and 612North, Christina plans and executes celebrations of all kinds. She manages weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, bachelorette/bachelor parties, rehearsal dinners, birthday celebrations – you name it! Last year, Drunken Fish started hosting Sushi and Sake Dinners and Sushi Rolling classes. These are part of a fun and engaging one of a kind dining experience.

And when asked the typical St. Louis question, “Where did you go to high school?” Christina responded with, “It is always nice to meet someone that is not from St. Louis.” Christina was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona and comes from a huge Hispanic family. “They don’t dare leave their hometown or parents,” she says, “but once I met Daniel and visited St. Louis a few times, I knew I needed to make the move. I fell in love with the character St. Louis has to offer. I actually love winter here! I never got it growing up, it was either warm or hot. While I do miss my family, I feel lucky to be here working with such an amazing group of people. As far as my high school, I went to Centennial High and my graduating class was just short of 300.”

She has been married for five years to Daniel Walsh and says she won the jackpot when she met him. Daniel is a buyer for the Veterans Canteen Service.

Christina spends her spare time running and kickboxing. “But nothing beats keeping my husband, Daniel, company with a glass of wine, while he cooks an amazing dinner for us!”

Her current binge watch is, “The Crown…and always The Housewives of any city (my guilty pleasure).”
