Certified Meeting Professional (CMP)

Looking to earn your CMP? We can help.

The Events Industry Council (EIC) certifies individuals through an internationally recognized certification program that evaluates the competency of meeting professionals. With more than 11,000 meeting professionals in 55 countries around the globe holding the CMP designation, it represents the standard of excellence in today's meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry.

The CMP program aims to increase the professionalism of meeting management professionals in all sectors of the industry by:

  • Identifying a comprehensive body of knowledge in the meeting management profession
  • Promoting industry standards, practices and ethics
  • Stimulating the advancement of the art and science of meeting management
  • Increasing the value of Certified Meeting Professionals to their employers
  • Maximizing the value received from the products and services provided by CMPs

How MPI Can Aid with the CMP Process

The CMP certification program is a two-part process in which you must complete the CMP application to demonstrate your eligibility, and then successfully pass a written exam covering meeting management. MPI supports the CMP process with the following resources:

What's the difference between the CMP & the CMM?

The Certificate in Meeting Management (CMM) in no way affects the status of the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation. In a totally non-competitive posture, the CMM is structured to complement the CMP designation. Whereas the CMP is more tactical in nature, the CMM focuses on strategic initiatives and executive decision-making. Learn more about the CMM and other MPI Certificate Programs.

Reporting Clock Hours

There are two ways to report earned clock hours. At live events, you will need to have your badge scanned at the door of each session in order to receive credit and have it automatically applied to your Member Transcript (Please allow 2-3 weeks processing).

On demand courses and webinars will automatically update in your MPI Academy transcript. Please be sure to take the evaluation after each webinar. Afterward, you will be prompted to download your certificate of completion. In the case that MPI is unable to update and sync to your EIC account, you can use the certificate to manually report your hours.
