Corporate Social Responsibility at WEC18

Social and environmental sustainability is integral to what we do as meeting professionals. With that in mind, WEC 2018 has been designed using the ISO 20121 Event Sustainability Management System as a guide and framework.

DONATIONS – BRING IT WITH YOU

Children’s Books for the Julian Center
Bring a children’s book with you to the WEC to support children at the Julian Center who are victims of domestic or sexual violence. Write supportive notes on the flyleaf or title page and encourage them to stay strong in the face of adversity and struggle.

Conference Supplies for Teacher’s Treasures
Donate all of your leftover conference giveaways, papers and supplies to help students and teachers in need. Drop off new and leftover conference papers, notebooks, supplies and giveaways to help local Indianapolis schools serve the community and their students. (And look for a Teacher’s Treasures in a city near your next conference.)

Women’s Accessories for Dress for Success
Help women in need as they begin to prepare to find work and get back on their feet. Donate new and gently used business attire to Dress for Success. The local arm of the organization says that they need the following items.

  • Mascara – new, black or dark brown
  • Knee-highs – new, regular or plus size
  • Professional jewelry – new or gently used (earrings, necklaces, bracelets)
  • Mobile phone-sized wallets or small purses – new or gently used

Reusables!
To reduce our environmental impact, WEC is striving to reduce waste and divert as much material as possible from the landfill. Join us by packing a reusable water bottle and tote bag, and by using our waste sorting stations to separate recyclable and compostable materials.

GIVING BACK

Paint Fest
Join the Foundation for Hospital Art and brighten the life of patients by painting panels of murals that will be displayed at local Indianapolis hospitals. Drop-in and spend as much or little time as you would like painting fun and attractive pieces that will be donated to the local community.

Cheeriodicals
Join one of our great team-building experiences and create Cheeriodicals gift boxes for children patients at local Indianapolis hospitals. Discover this unique combination of teamwork and sharing to provide cheer and goodwill to eagerly awaiting children and their families.

FOOD AND FLOWER DONATIONS

Second Helpings
MPI is donating leftover conference food to Second Helpings to help end hunger for thousands of local Indianapolis residents by supporting its efforts to feed people in need. Each day, Second Helpings volunteers and staff rescue prepared and perishable food from wholesalers, retailers and restaurants—preventing unnecessary waste. That rescued food is used to create 4,000 hot, nutritious meals each day that are distributed to over 85 social service agencies that feed people in need.

Random Acts of Flowers
Flowers used for décor at the MPI President’s Dinner will be donated to Random Acts of Flowers, a nonprofit that makes real impacts in communities around the U.S. Whether it’s improving health and well-being through flower deliveries or recycling flowers and vases that would have gone to the landfill, their work results in real and lasting change.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING

Zen Zone
Find tranquil moments amid the chaos of the live event experience in the MPI Zen Zone, an area that encourages you to take a few moments to reflect on your learnings, relax or just get away. Free yourself from the confines of space and time in the Zen Zone.

Run/Walk
Join us on Monday for a curated running or walking experience that will have you refreshed and ready for a day of learning and networking, all while experiencing beautiful downtown Indianapolis. Meet up location to be determined.
