What is MPI's World Education Congress?

MPI's World Education Congress is designed to teach meeting and event professionals to think outside the ballroom. More than 2,000 global meeting and event professionals join us every year to learn how to stop planning meetings and start designing transformative experiences that deliver return on investment dividends to all stakeholders and participants. WEC is produced by Meeting Professionals International, the largest, most diverse and influential association of its kind in the world.

Who attends MPI's World Education Congress?

WEC is for meeting and event planners and sales professionals who want to know where the market is going, who care passionately about being prepared for new market challenges and who want to lead the charge in designing more intelligent, effective experiences that drive revenue, achieve organizational objectives and benefit host and participant communities. The WEC community has 10 to 20 years of industry experience, but welcomes cross-generational mentorship opportunities and the next generation of attendees to this fantastic, engaging community.

When and where is MPI's 2018 World Education Congress?

WEC will be held in Indianapolis, IN at the Indiana Convention Center.  The official dates are Saturday June 2, 2018 through Tuesday, June 5, 2018.

Accessibility information for the Indianapolis Convention Center.

The Indiana Convention Center is an ADA-compliant facility. Most entrances into the convention center are fully accessible. Accommodations for persons with disabilities include Braille signage, restrooms, accessible ticket counters, designated parking, and wheelchair availability. Indiana Convention welcomes guests with disabilities and their assistive animals. While it is not necessary, we encourage guests with assistive animals to contact facility management (317-262-3463) in advance of the event, in order to most appropriately accommodate the needs of the guest and their animal.

How can I book a hotel?

MPI has partnered with 8 downtown Indianapolis hotels for WEC. To see what the discounted nightly rate is for each hotel, go to our Travel and Hotel page. In order to book a hotel, you must first be registered for WEC. Once you register, you will receive the link to the housing site in your confirmation email.

What is the dress code?

Attire is business casual.  Feel free to be comfortable in slacks, polo shirts, sweaters, blazers, blouses and most importantly, comfortable shoes.  We do recommend that you dress in layers as temperatures in meeting rooms can vary.  Please check evening events for additional dress codes for specific events.

How can I register for WEC?

There are several ways to register for WEC.  You can register online, by mail and onsite in Indianapolis.  Here’s how:

  • Online – The WEC 2018 website provides internet registration 24/7.
  • By mail – Download, print and complete the registration form. Please mail to the address shown on the form by Tuesday, May 15, 2018. Payment must be included with mailed registration.
  • Onsite – Registration counters will be available onsite.

Can I register for a one day conference pass?

If you wish to attend the conference for a single day, you have the option of purchasing a one day pass that will enable you to participate in education and other events occurring on that day.  Prices are as follows:

  • Member (Planner or Supplier) One Day Pass - $475
  • Non member (Planner or Supplier) One Day Pass - $575

How will I know if I am registered?

All attendees will receive a confirmation by email.  This confirmation is your receipt and verifies your address, contact information, the event(s) and/or additional fee sessions for which you have signed up, and how much you have paid.  If you have questions regarding your registration, please contact eventPower, our official registration and speaker management solution.

What is included in my registration fee?

Full Conference fee includes Opening and Closing Night Celebrations, education sessions, and meal functions. Events requiring registration and additional payment are so noted. 

Day registrations include:

  • Sunday, June 3, 2018 – Opening Night Celebration (Saturday evening event), General Sessions, concurrent sessions, meals and The Exchange.
  • Monday, June 4, 2018 – General Sessions, concurrent sessions, meals and The Exchange. Foundation event tickets may be purchased separately.
  • Tuesday, June 5, 2018 – General Sessions, concurrent sessions, meals and The Exchange, and Closing Night Celebration.


New Membership Bundles:  Fee includes 12 months of MPI Preferred membership and is available for NEW MPI memberships only.  Not valid for renewals.  Your membership will be activated by the MPI membership team the week of your registration.  You will receive a welcome email upon activation.  For more information, visit our membership page. Membership fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.

Guest Registration: Guest registration includes admission to the opening and closing celebrations and The MPI Exchange. It does not include education sessions, invitation only events or other meal functions. Tickets for MPI Foundation Events may be purchased at the time of guest registration. Guest Passes will be available for purchase onsite only for $125.

Registration Changes/Additions/Receipts: Once you have completed your registration, you will be sent a confirmation email. In that email is a personalized link to the online registration portal where you can update information and get a copy of your receipt/invoice or make a payment. If you would like us to resend your confirmation, please email MPI@eventPower.com.

What are the Refund/Cancellation/Substitution Policies?

Refund Policy: The deadline to request a refund for your registration is Sunday, April 15, 2018. Registration cancellations received prior to Sunday, April 15, 2018 may be eligible to receive a refund less a $200 service fee. Cancellations will be accepted in writing only and must be received by the stated cancellation deadline.

- Discount or special promotion codes are only available on new registrations, refunds are not available to any existing registrations

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations received after the stated deadline will not be eligible for a refund. However, registration fee paid may be applied to a future MPI event, less a $200 service fee. No shows for an event will not receive a refund or credit towards future event(s). All refund requests must be made by the registered attendee or credit card holder and include the name of the attendee and/or transaction number. Refunds will be issued via the original payment method used, no later than (30) days after cancellation has been approved. Please send written cancellations to MPI@eventPower.com.

Substitution Policy: Substitution of registration (same type: member/non-member) is permitted prior to Tuesday, May 15, 2018. Only one substitution is permitted per original registrant with written consent. The individual submitting the substitution request is responsible for all financial obligations associated with that substitution as well as updating any contact/demographic information. What is the Event Cancellation Policy?

Meeting Professionals International (MPI) reserves the right to cancel an event due to low enrollment or other circumstances which would make the event non-viable.

If MPI cancels an event, registrants will be offered a full refund.

Should circumstances arise that result in the postponement of an event, MPI has the right to either issue a full refund or transfer registration to the same event at the new, future date.

MPI will not be responsible for reimbursement of any participant’s expenses related to the cancellation or postponement of an event.

When is the Registration Deadline?

Online- Attendees may register all the way up until June 1, 2018.

Onsite- Attendees may register onsite June 2-5, 2018 at the registration and information booth.

Mail- The deadline to register by mail is May 15, 2018. Payment must be included with mailed registration.

How will I receive my badge?

When you arrive at WEC and check-in at a self-service kiosk or at the registration counter, you will receive your badge.  Please note that a photo ID will be required to pick up badges/materials.  Attendees will not be allowed to pick up other attendee’s badges/materials.  Badges or other official WEC identification must be worn to all official WEC events.

What if I lose my badge?

If you lose your badge at the conference, you will need to purchase a replacement badge from the registration desk.  The cost of a replacement badge is $25 USD.

Media Registration

MPI grants a limited number of complimentary registrations to editorial press staff — specifically editors, reporters, writers, producers, photographers, camera crews and select bloggers. Non-editorial press staff, such as sales directors, publishers and marketing or advertising representatives, are required to pay full registration rates to attend WEC.

To apply for complimentary registration, please provide the following credentials via email to the MPI Communications Team.

  • Website link for your publication or press outlet
  • Circulation and/or website traffic numbers for your press outlet
  • Links to three recent news stories with your byline about the meeting and event industry (Does not apply to business or local press)

Note, press contacts that previously attended WEC or EMEC in the past three years do not need to provide press credentials. It is highly recommended that interested press apply by May 1, 2018. Non-editorial press staff should proceed with regular event registration.

MPI reserves the right to refuse to register any individual as press and may limit the number of credentials issued to a single organization. Also, each WEC 2018 badge is issued individually and is non-transferable.
