Volunteer With MPI Greater Edmonton

 

MPI doesn’t exist without volunteers. They assist with creating programs for MPI members and hold leadership positions within MPI chapters. There are numerous opportunities available at both the chapter and international levels. Volunteering with MPI not only builds careers and increases industry knowledge, but the time and expertise will help the industry improve and grow.

Current Greater Edmonton Chapter Volunteer Opportunities: 

We have roles available for any type of commitment availability, from just a bit of time to those who want to be more involved. Here are a few positions we currently have available.  We love having our members getting involved, contact us today!

 

Special Events: Holiday Event, Global Meetings Industry Day, Event Management Awards (one Chair per event)

 

Role Description:

  • Identify volunteer roles required and manage the volunteer committee team based on each event and its specific goals, as reviewed by and with the Director
  • Manage communications and team status calls and identify areas of challenge and of opportunity
  • Liaise with vendor partners, manages on site production and pre-planning among committee members
  • Committee must cover all aspects of the event, including but not limited to theme, critical path, event marketing, vendor and venue sourcing, logistical planning, onsite day of coordination, budget and wrap up report

Monthly time commitment: 8-10 hours
Week of event commitment: 5-10 hours (includes on-site at event)

  • Research and compile education topic ideas and/or speaker ideas for up to six Education sessions
  • Oversee the coordination of all logistics for educational programs, including site selection, menu selection, audiovisual needs, room setup requirements, registration and hotel arrangements (as required)
  • Identify volunteer roles required and manage the volunteer committee team based on each event and its specific goals
  • Act as on-site point person for speaker(s) and venue during specified education session
Monthly time commitment: 8 - 10 hours



  • Research and compile topic ideas and/or themes for up to two social networking events
  • Oversee the coordination of all logistics for social networking events, including site selection, menu selection, audiovisual needs, room setup requirements, and registration
  • Identify volunteer roles required and manage the volunteer committee team based on each event and its specific goals
  • Act as on-site point person during specified networking event
Monthly time commitment: 2 - 6 hours


Role Description:

  • Identify volunteer roles required and manage the volunteer committee team based on each event and its specific goals, as reviewed by and with the Director. 
  • Manage communications and team status calls, and identifies areas of challenge and of opportunity
  • The Chair and Committee seek to forge partnerships between MPI and its partners to financially support and enhance the programs the Chapter offers 
  • Committee is responsible for designing partnership policies and guidelines, soliciting partnerships with our valued planners and suppliers and ensuring that the defined benefits of partnering with the Chapter are met
  • Committee is required to solicit all cash and in-kind sponsorship for the chapter to meet or exceed budget requirements

Monthly time commitment: 8-10 hours



Role Description:

  • Development of marketing plan including competitive analysis, target market research and industry trends
  • Offer recommendations around the use of social media and email communications
  • Collaborating with the Director, Communications and various subcommittees

Weekly time commitment: 1-4 hours per week, additional time may be required prior to events




Role Description:

  • Attend new member meet ups
  • Send information about the online courses available through MPI global and our upcoming events to new members
  • Attend trade shows
  • Personally invite the new members to their first event and sit with them, facilitate introductions, and introduce them to the board members
  • Contact first and second year members to find out how they are doing and offer information or assistance

Monthly time commitment: 6 hours


Role Description:

  • Build relationships with post secondary institutions with Special Events curriculum
  • Keep schools informed on MPI Greater Edmonton Chapter activities and opportunities
  • Promote online courses through MPI Global and upcoming local chapter events
  • Encourage student members to volunteer with the chapter

Monthly time commitment: 4 hours


Role Description:

  • Contact members monthly
  • Make calls to members with expiring membership or overdue membership renewals
  • Let members know of campaigns for deals
  • Let members know of upcoming events
  • Let members know of online courses and communities applicable to them through global

Monthly time commitment: 3-4 hours

  • Generate topics and/or theme ideas for consideration by the Director of Social Events
  • Assist in coordination of logistics for social networking events, including site selection, menu selection, audiovisual needs, room setup requirements, and/or registration
  • Assist with on-site execution of social networking event including registration, emcee duties, set-up and/or tear-down
Monthly time commitment: 1 - 6 hours
  • Generate education session topics and/or speaker ideas for consideration by the Director of Education
  • Assist in coordination of logistics for educational programs, including site selection, menu selection, audiovisual needs, room setup requirements, registration and/or hotel arrangements
  • Assist with on-site execution of education event, including registration, emcee duties, set-up, and/or tear-down
Monthly time commitment: 1 - 8 hours
